YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Sam Levin, a Yorktown resident is doing most things his classmates can only dream of.

Levin, 12, has already released two singles on iTunes called "I Sure Hope Not,"  released when he was 10, and the second, "Being With You is Easy," when he was 11. Levin wrote all of the music and lyrics and played all of the instruments. He has been playing his guitar for the last five years.

Levin's EP "I'm In Here," features five new songs that he wrote and recorded with his family and will be released on Friday. Levin's sister, Jane sings backup vocals and plays viola while Levin's father, David, plays harmonica.

"All my friends are telling me they can't wait for it," Levin said, of his pop-rock EP. "My neighbors and friends are all pretty exited."

All recording is done at home on a laptop. The title track was written as part of Levin's Bar Mitzvah project and is about living with autism. Proceeds from the single will go to the Flutie Foundation.

Levin recently performed in Yorktown at the Winery at St. George, with his family joining him on stage. He also has performed in Peekskill at the Peekskill Coffeehouse and 12 Grapes. His father David said he is "sort of the roadie and engineer."

"I plug the mixer into the laptop," the elder Levin said. "I hear him practice his guitar as he gets ready for school. We'll have a riff stuck in our head and it's because of a song he's been playing all week. We tell him he has to turn it into a song."

Sam Levin said he wanted to write and record his own music after hearing other bands perform in local coffeehouses.

"Sometimes I have song ideas in my head and I don't just want to keep them there," Levin said. "I want to make music."

Levin's songs are mostly about everyday life. His song "Look At Me" makes fun of friends for being so into social media. He said he enjoys performing with his family.

"People listen to a song and ask 'who is that on harmonica?'" Levin said "That's my dad. It's definitely fun to know who you're playing with."
