YORKTOWN, N.Y. A newly assembled organization in Yorktown is holding an inaugural fundraiser to celebrate its existence while raising money.
Yorktown Smart Growth, formed toward the end of 2011, will hold the fundraiser at Peter Pratt's Inn on Wednesday. The group said the night is a time to celebrate and learn more about the organization, as well as a way to raise funds to hire independent experts to evaluate major planning proposals before the town.
The event, which will take place between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., will also feature a silent auction including items and services donated by residents and local businesses, including some vacations, artwork, horse riding instruction, dog training, spa treatments and gift certificates.
Tickets are being sold for $50, half of which is being donated to Yorktown Smart Growth. Tickets can be purchased online or by mailing a check payable to Yorktown Smart Growth to Patricia Peckham, 1300 Baptist Church Road, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. 10598. The purpose of Yorktown Smart Growth is to provide information about development projects in the town to allow for more participation from residents. The organization's website defines its goal as seeking "to use the latest green technologies and energy-saving techniques to build efficient, sustainable commercial and residential buildings.
