Yorktown Veteran Recognized For Service

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – World War II veteran and late Yorktown resident Robert Perry was recognized for his military service Tuesday night during a meeting of the town board.

Perry, who died in May 2009 at 85, served in the 7th Cavalry as a technician 5th grade for two years and 10 months. For his service, Perry received the Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.

After his service, Perry served for more than 60 years in the Yorktown Fire Department and was a member of VFW post 8328. Perry was posthumously nominated for acceptance into the 40th Senate District’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

“I am honored to accept Yorktown’s nomination of their Mr. Perry,” State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) said at the meeting. “He chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America, as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty. America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of its veterans like Mr. Perry.”

The Veterans’ Hall of Fame is designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that will be honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.

“Robert Perry was a man of service to his community, his family and his country,” said Supervisor Michael Grace. “He is someone that we should all be proud to have honored and is a very good choice for the 40th Senate District Veterans’ Hall of Fame.”
