Yorktown Vietnam Veteran Honored By Spot On Wall Of Fame

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A local Vietnam veteran was honored by Senator Terrence Murphy with a spot on the 40th State Senate District Veterans Wall of Fame during a recent ceremony at Mildred E. Strang Middle School, according to the Examiner News.

69-year old Eugene Lang emigrated to the U.S. from Hungary after the Soviet Union took control in 1956, crossing the Austrian border with his brother under the cover of darkness, the Examiner News said.

Lang was eventually drafted into Vietnam, serving in the Army and earning a Purple Heart after being injured in the Battle of Khe Sanh, reported the Examiner News.

He would move to Yorktown in the late 1980s, retiring from Verizon 10 years ago, the Examiner News noted.
