YORKTOWN, N.Y. – World War II veteran and late Yorktown resident Robert Perry was inducted Saturday night into state Sen. Greg Ball’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

Perry, who died in May 2009 at 85, served in the 7th Cavalry as a technician fifth grade for two years and 10 months. For his service, Perry received the Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.

“He chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America, as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty," Ball said. "America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of its veterans like Mr. Perry.”

After his service, Perry served for more than 60 years in the Yorktown Fire Department and was a member of VFW post 8328. Perry also worked for the Town of Yorktown, employed with the Parks Department and the Highway Department.

The Veterans’ Hall of Fame is designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that will be honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th District.

Perry was one of 30 nominees honored Saturday during a ceremony at Henry H. Wells Middle School in Brewster.
