YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Out of 14 Yorktown businesses recently subjected to a underage drinking check, not one sold alcohol to an undercover teen, police said.

Undercover agents conducted checks at the 14 licensed locations around Yorktown and reported that all of the establishments refused to sell alcoholic beverages to the undercover agents during the test, according to Yorktown Police Chief Daniel McMahon. The compliance check was made possible through a Drug-Free Communities grant, according to a release from the department, that was awarded through the Alliance for Safe Kids.

Rukmini Rao, owner of Parkside 202 Wine & Liquors, said she was pleased her employees passed the check.

"We don't want to sell to underage kids not just because it is against the law but because it can lead to many bad things for them," Rao said Monday. "I have kids myself and I know how bad it can be for them to get into liquor."

In addition to Parkside, Courtesy Shell, Hess Mart on Route 202, Suburban Liquors, 7-11 on Commerce Street, Yorktown Beer and Soda, 7-11 Shell, Yorktown Mobil, Quick Stop Gulf, CVS, Courtesy Mobil, Yorktown Wines, Turco's and the A&P Store all passed the check.
