69-Year-Old Attacked, Injured In Putnam Valley Home Invasion

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- A 69-year-old Putnam Valley man was injured during a home invasion on Sunday, Oct. 12, officials said.

Putnam Sheriffs responded to a 911 call made by the victim after William M. Gilligan, 31, of Newburgh allegedly forced his way into the victim's home, police said. 

When Sheriffs arrived they reportedly witnessed Gilligan strangling the homeowner. Sheriffs had to use a Taser to get Gilligan off of the victim, police said. 

Gilligan faces a number of charges including: first and second-degree burglary, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and third-degree criminal mischief, police said. 

The victim sustained facial, head, neck, back and chest injuries. He was taken to an area hospital where he was examined and released, police said.
