BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- The Indian Point Three Nuclear Facility in Buchanan shut down automatically at approximately 9:15 p.m.  on Monday, Jan. 6 following the failure that regulates water flow into one of the four steam generators, according to a statement released by Entergy, the company that owns and operates the facility.

The water in the generators is used to create steam which in turn is used to power the turbines that create electricity, according to Entergy.

Entergy officials said that there was no release of radioactivity and no threat to the safety of workers or the public.

Indian Point unit three had been running continuously for 159 days prior to the shutdown. Indian Point Unit Two remained at full power during the incident.
