Cement Mixers Stir Up New Career In Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Two longtime cement mixers from New York City decided to trade in their outside work for a new career stirring up treats in Yorktown.

Luvin Spoonfuls, located in the Triangle Shopping Center next to A&P, had its grand opening celebration this past weekend with samples of some of its 100 different flavors of frozen yogurt.

Teddy Russel said he and his partner, Raymond Grande, opted to try something new after the cement business took a turn for the worst.

"We felt this was one of the real untouched spots," said Russel, who noted his sister, who lives in Yorktown, suggested northern Westchester. "The atmosphere of Luvin Spoonfuls will be like none other."

Luvin Spoonfuls has seating for 44 in 1,375 square feet amidst cotton candy colors. It also has televisions and free W-iFi.

Grande said he's not concerned about the influx of frozen yogurt and ice cream stores that have recently opened in downtown Yorktown.

"People have a choice. Competition is healthy," he said. "Just like you have A&P and Turcos."

Luvin Spoonfuls, which features the increasingly popular self-serve machines, is open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
