Lupo, a Pleasantville High School senior, who starred on the Pleasantville Panthers basketball team, was found dead Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A GoFundMe page has been launched by the Lieb family to offer the Lupo family financial support. More than $31,000 was raised in the first day of the campaign by 268 people. The goal is to raise $40,000. The initial goal was to raise $10,000.

The Liebs said they had never met someone as kind, caring, athletic and cool as Lupo.

Lupo was "not only was a champion in basketball but an even greater star in life," the Liebs wrote.

They noted Lupo "spent countless hours just wanting to be an incredible friend to so many throughout the Pleasantville community.

"Children of all ages adored him, just because he always had time for them- even after he reached the pinnacle of high school basketball."

A 6-foot-4 forward, Lupo earned all-section honors and was named as an 11th-team all-state selection in Class B. He was a key contributor in helping Pleasantville win the sectional title this year.

The school was open Friday from noon to 2 p.m. Friday for students who needed support.
