Couple Is Charged In Putnam Valley With Endangering Welfare Of Child

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Dutchess County couple, accused of having a physical dispute at a Putnam Valley residence in the presence of a child, has been arrested, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Sheriffs Robert Detlefs and Matthew Monroe responded to a 911 report of a verbal and physical dispute involving multiple suspects around 9:30 p.m. on May 10 in the Town of Putnam Valley, police said.

Deputies determined that Howard R. Meagher, 51, and Diana McKinney, 41, both of Wingdale, N.Y., had initiated then escalated a verbal and physical dispute with two other people in the residence, while an eight-year-old child in the residence witnessed the dispute, police said.

Meagher and McKinney were charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. 

The defendants were processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.
