Original report:

Palisades Parkway Police report an elderly couple believed to be from Westchester who were hiking and lost overnight, prompting a large search, have been found within the past half-hour early Thursday afternoon.

The unidentified couple was reportedly hiking in a large wooded area near State Line Lookout in the Alpine N.J. Section of the Palisades Interstate Park and were reported missing on Wednesday, police said.

A large search party including marine and helicopter units spent Wednesday night searching for the couple.

A Westchester County Police helicopter involved with the search had to make an emergency landing Thursday in a parking lot in the area due to smoke in the cockpit, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the department.

Emergency service personnel are currently checking out the couple.

Neither the ages of the two nor their place of residence has been released.

This is a developing story. Police are expected to release additional details shortly.
