YORKTOWN, N.Y. Despite renovations of its usual venue, teens from the Yorktown Teen Center are ensuring that the show does go on, but are asking for community help.
The teen centers first Friday café open mic night, co-sponsored with the Justin Veatch Fund, took place at a different venue this Friday was at Solaris Sports Club at the indoor soccer field.
We are taking open mic on tour, said Jeffrey Veatch.
According to Veatch, the next tour location for the teens is Club Fit on Nov. 4, but in the meantime, they are scoping out places to host the events.
Most places have been too small to accommodate us, while others want to charge us too much, said Helena Rodriguez of the Yorktown Teen Center.
The teen center is looking for a space that will accommodate about 130 people on Dec. 2, Jan. 6 and Feb. 3. The teens have been unable to perform at their usual location due to the renovations to the Yorktown Community Cultural Center, and according to Rodriguez, they dont want to have to stop their performances because their usual venue is unavailable.
The teens love to perform and the audience is so respectful and supportive of their peers. It would be sad to not have their show go on, Rodriguez said.
