It's all hands on deck for the Greenburgh Animal Control Division, which is using drones and a specialized team in an attempt to locate a coyote that bit a postal worker in the leg and is suspected of several additional attacks in the area.

Residents in the area were warned by police to be on alert for a wandering coyote, which reportedly may be rabid , that bit three people and killed a dog on Wednesday, according to Hastings Police Lt. David Dosin.

The coyote was last seen in the area of Westminster Drive in Yonkers, Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Thursday afternoon.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner stated that he has spoken with Hastings Mayor Peter Swinderski and Greenburgh Police Chief Chris McNerney about the incident, and they have called in the help of wildlife specialists to call out any coyotes. They are also in possession of a police drone they plan to use to identify the coyote that was on the prowl on Wednesday.

Police received their first report of the coyote shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, with the second coming from a Kent Avenue resident shortly after 7 p.m., stating that he had been attacked and treated for a leg injury. Dosin said that calls continued to come in, with reports of a small dog that was attacked and killed.

Officials said that because coyotes who attack may be rabid, any resident who has sighted a coyote should contact the police department by calling (914) 478-2344.
