YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- A test of all Indian Point sirens in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties will take place Wednesday, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Sirens will sound for four minutes at full volume, followed by the activation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on radio and television stations.
In the event of an emergency, the sirens would sound continually at full volume for four minutes, followed by the broadcast of an EAS message on radio and television stations. The sirens themseleves are not signals to evacuate, they are an alert for people to tune to the EAS radio or TV station for additional information and instructions.
Wednesday's sirens are a test, and no response on the part of the public is necessary.
