Fallen Soldier Forever Memorialized In Yorktown

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - David Fahey is gone, but his legacy will live on in Yorktown Heights.

The fallen soldier was forever memorialized Sunday afternoon with a plaque dedication ceremony in Patriot Garden behind Town Hall.

"Putting this plaque at this place is just a small token but understand it comes from all of our hearts. All of us," said Supervisor Michael Grace. "It is such a humbling thing to honor these men that have given so much."

Fahey, 23, was killed in Afghanistan Feb. 28, 2011 from injuries suffered from an explosive device. He received the Bronze Star for service, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge and was posthumously promoted to the rank of specialist.

Tom Fahey, David's uncle and adoptive father, said he has been touched by the outpouring of support his family received from community members.

"At a time of pain, and when you just don’t think you can breathe anymore, to have your community rally around my family the way that you guys have – I will never forget that," he said.

The Fahey family was joined at the ceremony by dozens of friends, family, community members and politicians.

"All give some, and some give all," said council member Vishnu Patel. "We will always carry you in our hearts and in our mind. You did what you loved, and died defending everyone you loved."
