Gas Prices Climb To $4 Per Gallon In Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. — As many motorists prepare to travel for late summer vacations, residents in Yorktown will find it is costing them more to fill up at the pump.

The price of regular gasoline has inched up to $4 per gallon at most stations in downtown Yorktown. A few stations on Route 202 advertised regular gasoline Wednesday at $3.85 per gallon.

The average price of regular gasoline has gone up nearly a dime a gallon nationwide in the past two weeks, after a three-month steady decrease when prices had fallen as much as 56 cents per gallon in mid-July.

The roller coaster trend in gasoline and diesel prices is related to the cost of crude oil and the global demand for crude nationwide.

The price increase hasn't phased many customers, said Bob Cameron, longtime owner of the Shell station at Underhill Avenue and Kear Street.

"Everybody's used to it," he said, noting he has received few complaints. "You just have to pay the piper."
