YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Two gray pieces of steel rested in the front of Grace Lutheran Church Sunday morning, connected by one cross that rested on top of them.
The steel, explained Pastor Tim Kennedy, made its way to the church by donationan FDNY firefighter named Richie Schmidt gave the steel to Grace Lutheran Church member Jim Carney. Pastor Kennedy created the structure, and placed a cross on top of it. At two separate ceremonies on Sunday, Pastor Kennedy dedicated the representation of the towers made of the steel from tower one. The three horizontal pieces on the steel represent rungs of a ladder, according to Pastor Kennedy.
Our former Bishop, Stephen Bouman, wrote a few days after 9/11 that the fireman ascending the steps of the towers are workers streamed down, reminded him of Jacobs Ladder, with angels ascending and descending, read the Church bulletin that day.
