Maybe taxpayers should now consider demolishing and relocating Yorktown’s Highway Garage then developing that public property. That's strictly conditioned on modeling this project after Supervisor Grace's own shrewd personal land development deal across the street. Newspapers reported that Supervisor Grace is only long term leasing (not selling) his portion of the multi-million dollar Underhill Avenue joint property venture with State Senator Terrence Murphy.

If leasing property is the best option for Supervisor Grace and his business partners then it stands to reason that leasing the Highway Garage must also be best option for taxpayers. We should be skeptical of elected officials who says otherwise or do things one way for themselves but another for the taxpayers. It's time that Yorktown starts benefiting from its town owned property as much as it's politicians seem to already have benefited from developing their own properties. Leasing the Highway Department property will achieve the Town Board's stated goals of revitalizing downtown but more importantly after the lease expires Yorktown gets the former Highway Garage property back for a future generation to redevelop again.
