To play New York State Lotto all you need is 'a dollar and a dream'. To play 'Yorktown Lotto' it's possible that all you need is some 'property and a scheme'. Will Yorktown's revitalization turn out to have been a sort of town-sized shell game? Taxpayers were distracted by the shiny object (Garage-zilla), the proposed new multi-million dollar Highway Garage and took their eyes off what politicians were planning to do across the street. Laws were passed and initiatives were enacted in the name of progress but some now wonder for whose benefit? Many have come to question whether Yorktown has become too much of a tangle of financial self-interest uncomfortably intertwined too closely with proposed land development, tax incentives and revitalization plans. Just another 'Political Rags to Riches Story' playing out right before taxpayer's eyes. Yorktown deserves better.
