Moms Support Murphy, Women's Voice in Election

YORKTOWN, N.Y.—A militia of moms stood at the Jack DeVito Gazebo Friday morning, armed with green t-shirts, green signs and fervent support for candidate for county legislator, Terrence Murphy.

“The moms here today are not looking at Republican, or Democrat, but who can we trust to provide a viable future for our children,” said Caroline Murphy. “We believe that person is Dr. Terrence Murphy.”

Murphy, who is the wife of Terrence Murphy, said her husband has advocated to keep families and children safe in his time at the town board, including the establishment of a safety zone to keep sexual offenders away from children.

“This November is Westchester’s time to reinvest, reinvest in our future. We have had enough of politics as usual and our children can no longer afford it,” Murphy said. “This November, we encourage all moms and dads to come out and support Terrence because of his vision for our county."

Republican Chairwoman Serafina Mastro said Friday’s event was a time for women to get out and show their importance in politics.

“I don’t think that men think that we’re that important in politics, but we are. We’re the back of each politician, we’re there for their support and with our support,” Mastro said. “We have patience, and we push them forward, so I think we need to come forward as women and get our voices heard.”

For this reason, Mastro said Murphy was her candidate for district four legislator.

“I’ve watched Murphy from day one on the board, he is a very compassionate guy and the most important thing about Terrence is if he doesn’t have an answer for you for an issue he will find out and he follows up and he will get back to you,” she said. “We don’t have a lot of politicians that will do that, that are like Terrence and that’s very important to me.”
