The animals were discovered in plastic bags at the intersection of Route 129 and Underhill Avenue by the Yorktown Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the SPCA said.

“Several plastic bags were discovered at the site, one of which contained the body of a headless goat," said HLE Unit Director Ernest Lungaro. "The highly decomposed remains of other animals including birds were found in the remaining bags.  Several of those animals had also been decapitated.”

Lisa Bonanno, a spokesperson for the SPCA, said Yorktown police have also been contacted and are working with the SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement unit.

Necropsies are being performed on the animals to determine cause of death.

Bonanno added that while it appears there are no cats or dogs among the remains, necropsy results are needed to determine what animals were involved.

“The public is being urged to contact the SPCA’s Animal Cruelty Hotline with any information that may help us make an arrest in this investigation,” said Shannon Laukhuf, SPCA Executive Director. “This includes anyone who is missing animals or knows about the dumping or discarding of animals.”

Daily Voice attempted to reach Yorktown Police for comment before publication.
