All of NYSEG's 6,463 customers in Yorktown remained without power Tuesday afternoon while 6,424 of Con Edison's Yorktown customers were without power. 

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Nearly all of Yorktown is without power Tuesday morning.

One-hundred percent of New York State Electric and Gas town customers were without power as of 10:30 a.m., the company reports.  NYSEG serves 6,463 customers in Yorktown. Con Ed reports 6,359 out of its 8,173 customers in Yorktown also lost power.

Update, 7 a.m. YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Hurricane Sandy knocked out power to nearly all of Yorktown as of Tuesday morning, according to Con Edison and New York State Electric and Gas reports.

An estimated 6,461 out of 6,463 NYSEG, and 5,779 out of 8,173 Con Ed customers in Yorktown were without power as of 7 a.m. Tuesday. It’s unclear when customers can expect power to return.

More than 150,000 customers across Westchester County are still without Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy, Con Edison representatives said.

“This is the largest storm-related outage in our history,” said Con Edison Senior Vice President for Electric Operations John Miksad in a press release.

The National Weather Service has downgraded Sandy to a post-tropical cyclone, but the storm is still producing sustained winds up to 65 mph according to the NWS 5 a.m. update. A wind advisory is still in effect for Westchester County until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Weather officials said the brunt of the storm hit the area Monday night, but additional power outages could occur throughout Tuesday.

Update, 7:45 p.m. YORKTOWN, N.Y. – There are more than 4,000 Yorktown residents without power Monday night, with numbers continuing to climb due to Hurricane Sandy's fury.

There are 2,970 New York State Electric and Gas customers without power, as of 7:45 p.m., the company reports.  NYSEG serves 6,463 customers in Yorktown. Con Ed reports 1,441 out of its 8,173 customers in Yorktown have also lost power.

Original Story, 4:14 p.m. YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Power outages throughout Yorktown have been reported Monday by hundreds of Consolidated Edison and New York State Electric and Gas customers.

Strong winds and rain from Hurricane Sandy has knocked out power to 355 of 8,173 customers in the area, according to Con Ed's outage map. No estimated restoration has been given. There are 348 out of 6,463 NYSEG customers without power.
