TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Construction of the New NY Bridge moves forward after a long winter with pile installation weekdays and weekends and a new office to house the Westchester Community Outreach Center in Tarrytown.
Nut and bolts construction includes pile driving between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, and between noon and 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
Workers continue pile welding associated with permanent foundations for the spans, according to information released by the New York State Thruway Authority website.
The Westchester Community Outreach Center, where those interested in the project may learn more and have questions answered, has a new home at 2 North Broadway in downtown Tarrytown. It was previously located at 303 South Broadway in where the project team has office space.
"We moved the outreach center to downtown Tarrytown to increase its visibility and better engage the public,” said Brian Conybeare, special advisor to the governor for the New NY Bridge Project. “We have already seen a substantial uptick in visitors and we encourage all to stop by to ask questions or get information about this extraordinary project."
Crews continue working to place foundation piles from the shorelines of Rockland and Westchester sides and work on the foundations for the main span continues as well. Work on temporary work trestles, including pile driving to install the temporary foundation piles needed to support the platforms is ongoing on both shorelines.
The Thruway Authority also announced upcoming lane closures on I-87 and I-287 beginning Monday, May 5.
