Tappan Zee Constructors have installed all westbound lighting fixtures on the bridge, as well aesthetic lighting fixtures on the upper main tower. The company intends to conduct periodic lighting tests to confirm that each of the lights was properly set up.

Steel work continues at the Thruway Authority’s maintenance facility in Tarrytown. Officials said that crews will also continue with footing and retaining wall construction for a new state police facility. To form part of the retaining wall, Tappan Zee Constructors have begun installing steel sheets with a vibratory hammer.

Other work still to be completed includes the installation stay cables and a safety fence, as well as support for river-based work from the Rockland County trestle. There will be survey inspections on the existing bridge and substructure work on the pier. Temporary structures still need to be removed from Westchester and there will be internal work as well as the construction of a maintenance dock.

Boaters can expect periodic closures of the main navigation travel as construction continues. There will be cranes, barges and other construction equipment occupying stretches of the channel during that time. Boaters have been asked to avoid the project site during closures.
