According to members of “Peekskill United,” the Fourth of July fireworks show was in danger of being canceled due to a rise in cost and lack of donations to help further the cause. However, the organization stated that Mayor Frank Catalina stepped in and secured the necessary funding from individuals and local businesses to continue the tradition.

The display on July 4 will mark the 55th celebration at the Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill.

Each year, thousands flock to the Riverfront for a dazzling fireworks display that is organized by the Peekskill Volunteer Fire Department, which manages and fundraises to keep the event going.

“This is a beloved tradition that must continue,” Catalina stated. “The fireworks not only bring great joy to families, but also bring a great deal of business into Peekskill. What better way to showcase our city than with this fantastic, patriotic event.”

The Peekskill Riverfront Concert Series will kick off the Fourth of July celebration beginning at 7 p.m. The fireworks are expected to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
