YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Salt spreaders were on the streets and residents began shoveling early snow Friday as a winter storm arrived in Yorktown.

The National Weather Service predicted heavy snowfall and high winds through Saturday morning for the Westchester County area forcing Yorktown and Lakeland Central Schools to close.

All after-school activities.in the town, as well as local recreation and town government events, were also canceled for Friday and Saturday.
