Putnam Bank Robbery Suspect Gets $35K To Settle Claim

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – A suspected bank robber has been paid $35,000 to settle his claim that members of the Putnam Sheriff’s Department attacked him while he was handcuffed, lohud reports.

Kenneth DeFreitas, 29, of Patterson, who was accused of robbing a County National Bank branch in Carmel, claims officers attacked him at Carmel Town Hall on July 3, 2014 as he was being transported into court. The alleged incident happened after the suspect reached for one of the officer’s guns, according to the report.
