Putnam Valley Man Faces Charge Of Assaulting Wife

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. – Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith announced that a Putnam Valley man was arrested on an assault charge related to an incident earlier this month.

Deputy Sheriff Joseph Diaz attended to a report of a domestic dispute at 49 Becker St. about 5 p.m. July 9. It was determined that Robert J. Tyra, 64, punched and pushed his wife in the chest, causing an injury in the process, authorities said.

Tyra was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance on Aug. 6.

If found guilty, penalties could go up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
