  • While the Yorktown Heights shop has been open for more than a week, customers who arrive at the Grand Opening of Rita's Italian Ice on June 20 could receive Italian Ice for a year. The first 50 guests in line, who also donate a new pet supply to Yorktown's Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and stay in line until doors open at 10 a.m. on June 20, will "win Rita’s Italian Ice for a year," according to a press release from Duke Marketing. All guests who visit the new Rita’s Italian Ice for the Grand Opening will receive a free Regular Ice, according to the release. The new 600-square-foot Rita’s Italian Ice is located at 1881A Commerce St. in Yorktown Heights.
  • Yorktown's Tricy Cushner has been nominated for the second annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame. The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame, created by state Sen. Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) honors notable women throughout the 40th Senate District, according to a release from Ball's office. Cushner will be honored as part of the Hall of Fame ceremony in September.
  • New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning made his annual appearance for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind charity on Monday at the Mount Kisco Country Club despite the rain and wind. Manning has supported the charity, based out of Yorktown, for several years and returned to do so in 2013 for the 36th Annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Golf Classic. Players had the chance to interact with Manning, several of the Guiding Eyes dogs and the trainers and guide dogs in training.
