Support Connection Announces New Board President

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Support Connection a not-for-profit organization that provides free support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, recently announced that Michael W. Murphy of Cortlandt Manor, has been named president of the their board of directors.

Murphy has been a member of the Support Connection Board of Directors since 2004. He first became aware of the organization after his wife Nancy was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in 1998. She reached out to Support Connection for help, and became a passionate advocate for the organization up until her death in 2001. 

In addition to serving as a board member, Murphy has volunteered for Support Connection in various capacities, including co-facilitating a support group for men who lost their wives to breast or ovarian cancer. 

Murphy was born, raised and educated in the New York area. He received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and his masters in business from NYU. He married his wife  in 1975; together they had two sons, Jon and Phill. 

Before retiring in 2004, Murphy worked for Altria Corp. where he held various sales and marketing positions. He now works for Nat Sherman Inc., handling regulatory compliance matters. 

The Board includes cancer survivors, family members, business leaders and members of the community. In addition to providing governance for the organization, the board works to raise funds and pursue resources to enhance and sustain Support Connection’s programs and services.
