YORKTOWN, N.Y. For the last 15 years, Support Connection has been a friend and, in many ways, a lifesaver for thousands of individuals and families affected by breast or ovarian cancer.
The not-for-profit Yorktown-based organization's free and confidential services and programs have often led to treatment and medical intervention that has provided unmatched emotional and physical support.
On Sunday, Support Connection will hold its Ninth Annual Celebrate Life Day at Travelers Rest on Route 100 in Ossining to mark National Cancer Survivors Day. The event is designed to honor cancer survivors for their strength and courage, and recognize the contributions of families, friends and other caregivers.
National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual worldwide celebration of life in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and other countries.
The Support Connection event, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. and sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors of White Plains, will include musical entertainment and lunch, which is free for cancer survivors. More than 130 people have already signed up to attend.
There will also be inspirational speeches from Nancy Heller, co-founder and president of Support Connection and a 26-year breast cancer survivor, Gerri Babiarz, recipient of Support Connection's 2011 Spirit of Hope Award and a five-year breast cancer survivor, and Roslyn Mann, a 26-year cancer survivor and a certified geriatric care manager with Elder Resources Network.
