- A Yorktown teen who suffered severe injuries in a crash on July 9 on Crompond Road awakened from his medically-induced coma this week, the teen's father said. Christopher Starace, 18, of Yorktown, was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Crompond Road near Pine Grove Court in Yorktown, police said in a news release. Starace was involved in the head-on collision with 22-year-old Cortlandt resident Arielle Szalkowski, who was later charged with two first-degree felony counts of vehicular assault and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of driving while Intoxicated after tests showed she had a blood-alcohol content of .18 percent, police said in the release.
- More than 60 tickets were issued in a six-hour period at FDR State Park in Yorktown on July 14, according to New York State Police. State Police in Somers conducted an "Occupant Safety Enforcement Detail" at the entrance of FDR State Park in Yorktown between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to a news release. The detail resulted in 61 tickets being issued, a majority for failure to wear a seat belt, according to the release.
- More than 30 Westchester County residents, including Yorktown teens, competed in the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel, which began Wednesday. The Maccabiah Games, also known as "The Jewish Olympics," take place in Israel every four years. The games are the world’s largest Jewish athletic competition and include more than 30 sports.
