Third Edition of 'Yorktown Walk Book' Debuts

YORKTOWN, N.Y. — The Yorktown Land Trust recently published a colorful third edition of its "Yorktown Walk Book" in an effort to inform residents and visitors of the numerous walking and hiking trails in Yorktown.

"We've done this to educate the people about the opportunities in Yorktown," said Land Trust President John Schroeder. "We also use it to help out some of the town departments and organizations."

The book, dedicated to Beryl Harper and Dean Yager, two founding members of the not-for-profit land trust, details 20 locations suitable for leisurely strolls or challenging hikes.

Some of the destinations are the 834-acre Teatown Lake Reservation, the nearly 200-acre Sylvan Glen Park Preserve off Lexington Ave., the 150-acre Teatown Mountain Nature Preserve and the 208-acre Kitchawan Preserve.

"It's very impressive," Councilman Terrence Murphy said of the comprehensive book.

The suggested donation for the book is $5. The land trust offered to give a free copy to anyone who volunteers during "The Battle of Yorktown" Earth Day weekend cleanups.

Tax-deductible contributions can be sent to: Yorktown Land Trust, P.O. Box 1166, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
