Town Residents Clean Up in 'Battle of Yorktown'

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Town residents came out in force to tackle trash during the annual “Battle of Yorktown.”

Kim Angliss-Cage of the Yorktown Department of Environmental Conservation reported to the town board Tuesday night that 677 volunteers turned out April 21 to dispose of 12.26 tons of garbage in 1,195 orange bags.

"There's no doubt the community is greener and cleaner," said Angliss-Cage, who noted 12 car tires were also picked up. "I hope everyone noticed a difference in how clean the roadsides are. I wish they would stay that way."

Supervisor Michael Grace said the efforts of Angliss-Cage and the hundreds of volunteers were visible.

"We appreciate your hard work and it really shows," he said.
