YORKTOWN, N.Y. A 16-year-old Mahopac girl and a 48-year-old Yorktown man were charged with assault last week in separate incidents.
The 16-year-old turned herself in at Yorktown police headquarters at 6:15 p.m. April 3, following a March 21 altercation in the parking lot of the Yorktown Green shopping center.
According to Yorktown police, the girl, whose name was withheld because of her eligibility for youthful offender status, assaulted a 19-year-old female, who was taken to a hospital for injuries to her eye and head after being punched and kicked.
After being charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and arraigned by Town Justice Sal Lagonia, the girl was released to a parent on $250 cash bail. She is scheduled to return to court April 17.
In the second incident, Police Officers Scott Sage and Donald Peters responded on April 4 to a residence on Peter Lane on a report of a past domestic dispute. Daniel Varghese, 48, had struck a female resident with a cell phone during the dispute, causing a wrist injury, police said.
Besides being charged with third-degree assault, Varghese was served with a temporary order of protection. He was released on his own recognizance.
