Thomas Abrams, 52, of Wappinger, was one of 12 men arrested during "Operation Spider Byte," which targeted individuals who thought they were using social media to lure minors ages 9 to 14 to take part in sex acts, the Sheriff's Office said.

Abrams, a 27-year veteran of the department, is suspended without pay pending a formal disciplinary hearing and charges, Deputy Commissioner Justin Pruyne said.

"The Westchester County Department of Correction is aware of the serious allegations related to the off-duty arrest of Captain Thomas Abrams, who has been suspended without pay pending service of formal disciplinary charges," said Pruyne. "WCDOC continues to cooperate fully with the arresting agencies as to any further action or information that they may require."

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office said the effort was a long-planned, coordinated effort alongside the FBI and state police said due to ongoing cases the details of the operation could not be released.

Abrams was charged with attempted second-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, the sheriff's office said. He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 3.
