What to do this Weekend With the Kids

The warm weather has set in, and it’s time to explore the great outdoors. Check out these ideas for some fun (and affordable) trips this weekend.

Get clean with your children—make your own soap. Attend the parent and child (age 5 and up) workshop at Hilltop Hanover Farms on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. This glycerin-based soap is free of chemicals, and can be brought home after the workshop. Call 914-962-2368 to register—cost is $25 per adult, $5 per child.

As of last weekend, boat rentals are available at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park. Paddleboats are a $25 dollar deposit, plus $5 per half-hour; rowboats are a $25 deposit. There is an $8 per vehicle fee per week, unless you have an empire passport. Boat rentals are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

On Saturday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. you can watch the time fly at the Yorktown Museum. Every year the museum has two exhibits and the current exhibit features hollowed clocks with themes set inside, all placed in glass cases with other artifacts from the museum. Donations are accepted.

Lakeside at Osceola is now open on the weekends and have boats, games and enough food to entertain any family. Paddle Open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admittance is $10 adults, $8 seniors, $6 kids ages 3-10. Paddle boats and kayaks are available $10 for 30 minutes and 19-hole mini-golf is $5 per person.
