YORKTOWN, N.Y. There's a variety of unique events being held in Yorktown this weekend, including the debut of the Yorktown Farmers Market on Saturday.
Friday, May 18
Battle of the Bands: 6 to 10 p.m. Spring Fest Battle of the Bands featuring musicians from Lakeland and Yorktown high schools will be held outdoors at the Jack DeVito Gazebo behind the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center. No charge. Food will also be available for purchase. 1974 Commerce St.
Odd Couple: 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School and Bobcat Productions present the student acted classic. Male version Saturday at 7, female version Friday at 7 and Saturday at 1. Suggested donation of $10 includes show and refreshments. 3417 Old Yorktown Road.

Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Yorktown Farmers Market opens for the first time in the field behind Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1, Commerce Street. There are 20 vendors scheduled. Yorktown Teen Center Band to perform 10 a.m. and noon. Free reusable shopping bags for first 100 customers. Most proceeds benefit local charitable organizations.

Best Selling Author: 10 a.m. New York Times bestselling author Deborah Feldman, who wrote "Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots," will speak at the Yorktown Jewish Center. Tickets $18 at door. 2966 Crompond Road.
Pet Expo: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Paws for a Cause Spring Into Adoption Pet Expo. Yorktown Grange Fair Grounds. Moseman Avenue.
Hilltop Farm Festival: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reskill Westchester Festival & Westchester Land Trust Quest Grand Opening, Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center. Learn about lost arts, eat locally made ice cream, walk the new Quest, hike the trails, enjoy music, workshops, kids crafts and more. The suggested donation is $5 per car. 1271 Hanover St.
