Woman Accused In Fiance's Death On Hudson River Pleads Not Guilty

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A woman charged with sabotaging her fiance's kayak, causing him to drown in the Hudson River, pleaded not guilty Friday, according to multiple reports.

Angelika Graswald, 35, did not speak during her arraignment in Orange County Court in Goshen, ABC News reported.

Graswald has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of her fiance, Vincent Viafore, whose body was found last weekend in the Hudson River after he disappeared on their kayaking trip last month.

Graswald is being held on $3 million bail., and her next court appearance is scheduled for June 22, according to ABC News.

Authorities say Graswald tampered with Viafore's paddle and removed a plug from his kayak so it would fill with water, the story said. Authorities also allege she moved the paddle away from him as he was struggling to stay afloat in the 40-degree water, and failed to help him, according to abcnews.go.com.
