YORKTOWN, N.Y.The Yorktown Democratic Committee unanimously endorsed Town of Cortlandt councilman and Hudson Valley Hospital Center cardiologist Richard Becker in his race against Rep. Nan Hayworth.
At their meeting on March 1, the committee, chaired by Ron Stokes, endorsed Becker and described their support as another sign that Democrats in Hayworths district are rallying behind Becker as the best equipped to defeat Tea Party Republican Nan Hayworth this fall.
We were impressed with his determination to whole-heartedly stand up for Democratic values and blown away by his knowledge of the issues, Stokes said in a press release. On creating jobs, protecting the middle class, reforming health care, preserving Social Security and Medicare, and defending womens reproductive freedom, hell go toe-to-toe with Nan Hayworth.
Stokes said Becker is the representative the Hudson Valley needs to champion the people in the district, not the Republican party leaders in Washington.
Becker will be an independent voice and leader wholl stand up to politics as usual; hes been doing it throughout the Hudson Valley for the last 30 years, Stokes said. With all of this speculation around redistricting, one thing rang clear and true last night: Yorktown wants Richard Becker to represent us in Washington. He has an admirable record of solving tough problems and facing down powerful interests, and he wont be afraid to fight for us.
