Yorktown Extends State of Emergency

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Yorktown has extended its state of emergency until 3 p.m. Sunday and urged residents who are not emergency vehicles or not making their way to the Yorktown community cultural center (YCCC) shelter to stay off the roads.

"If people need to leave their house and they really have a problem they can go to the shelter we have set up at the YCCC," said Supervisor Suzanne Siegel, who added that as of Sunday morning there were eight people at the shelter.

Among other secondary roads, Siegel said the following roads were closed:-Lexington Ave. from Route 202 to Route 6- There is flooding on Route 202 from BJs to McDonalds- Crow Hill Rd. is experiencing problems- Broad Street from Windmill to Granite Springs Road- There are some problems on East Main Street near the Jefferson Valley Mall

Siegel said t?he YCCC has power and has a generator ready to go.? Town Hall is currently without power.

"??T?here have been no injuries, no problems and no property damage that we're seeing so far," Siegel said. ??S?h?e? ?s?a?i?d?? the sewage treatment plant did not flood??, which was a major area of concern for the town. "?????I???????????t's not as bad as we had been predicting," she said.

"????According the ??P?o?l?i?c?e? ????C???hief Daniel McMahon?, we've had worse impact from thunderstorms before because with a thunderstorm we might get three hours of really intense rain," she said. "??W?hat's happening with this is there are intense bursts of rain and then it subsides and then there is m?o?re intense rain and then it subsides, so this is giving the system a chance to deal with the water in the midst of it all."

??Siegel said?? ?h?i?g?h?w?a?y? ?c?r?e?w?s? ?a?n?d? ???????????????????????????????????????????Con ???Edition are??????????????????? ????w?o?r?k?i?n?g to deal with the live and down wires??.?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

"???We have fantastic people who work extremely well together?,??"? ???S?i?e?g?e?l? ?s?a?i?d.? ???"They have been communicating on conference calls and have been coordinating everything extremely well?.???????????????"
