YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Thousands of Yorktown residents and businesses lined the streets of Yorktown for the third annual Yorktown Street Festival and Fair Sunday.
Cindy Gurka stood in an enclosed glass case, trying her very hardest to catch the money that flew all around the small enclosure. She wasn't at a game show, she was enjoying one of the 250 booths of vendors the street fair had to offer.
"Well that was a lot of fun," Gurka said as she was swept off to count her prize.
The booth was run by J & B Family Jewelers, a Yorktown business located right in Underhill Plaza. The owner Benny Chiazzese said this was the first time his business took part in the festival.
"We've had such an awesome turnout, from kids from adults, just everyone," Chiazzese said taking a break from the booth. "It's a great day for us as a business to kind of come out and meet all of our customers, and try and get some new ones. But we're just here to have fun, and so far everyone's having a good time.
President of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, Joe Visconti, said he was pleased with both the turnout and the beautiful weather.
"We've got a great day, and I'm so glad everyone came out," Visconti said.
The day was a celebration of entertainment, vendors and community groups, all coming together for a great celebration of community pride. In between booths of local businesses were those of fundraisers, such as for Relay for Life or Yorktown Love in Action.
Former president of the Yorktown Chamber James Strapoli echoed the sentiments of many of the local businesses in attendance that day.
"Today has turned out to be truly amazing. It has just exponentially grown since the first year, and I think the great turnout is really a testament to the chamber itself, and also to the great community we have here, that everyone was willing to come out today," Strapoli said.
