YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- In honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Yorktown will participate in a statewide "Go Purple" event on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
As part of the event to raise awareness of domestic violence, the city will shine purple lights on buildings and residents are asked to wear purple all day.
Purple is the symbolic color of domestic violence awareness.
The program was developed by the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and will take place all day on Wednesday.
