YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Yorktown Grange Fair officials have announced they are ready to accept entries for this year's competition.

"If you've raised it, grown it or created it and you're proud of it, consider submitting an entry to be judged and displayed at this year's fair," said Nicole Fervan of the Yorktown Grange.

Now in its 88th year, the Grange Fair has a long tradition of judging the best produce, flowers and livestock submitted by local residents. According to historical accounts, the first Grange Fair was started at the suggestion of Chester Hyatt to "show off his fine potato crop and to see if other Grange members could match it."

The theme of this year's fair, which will be Sept. 6-9, is "Hometown Pride Shared Countywide." This year's judging categories are art, baking, flowers, Legos, livestock, needlework, photography, poultry and produce.

Guidelines and entry forms for all categories are posted on the fair's website www.YorktownGrangeFair.org, or call (914) 962-3900.
