YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Starting Monday the Yorktown Water Department will start flushing hydrants weekdays, until about November 18.The flushing is scheduled between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will take place in parts of sections three and seven in the town. The Town of Yorktown 2009 Environmental Conservation Dept. booklet has a list of streets included in these sections.Residents are advised that flushing may cause discoloration of the water, but it does not represent a health hazard. Staining may occur if the water isn't clear when clothes are washed, so check the water before doing so to avoid any discoloration or stains. If you have cloudy water, run cold water through all the faucets for 5-10 minutes.According to the town announcement announcing the flushing, the program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for firefighting and domestic consumption.Contact the Water Department directly at 914-245-6111 or visit the Water Department website at www.yorktownny.org for more
