YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- The Yorktown Community and Cultural Center will be open through the week as a cooling center, Yorktown officials said Monday.
The center at 1974 Commerce St. in Yorktown Heights will be open to residents from noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, as a cooling center for residents looking to get out of the heat.
"The Cooling Center is a place that residents can stay if their home is uncomfortable because of the unreasonable high temperatures and high humidity," Yorktown officials said in a news release. "Residents are permitted to bring non-perishable items and are reminded to bring with them any necessary medications. No pets are allowed at the Cooling Center."
