YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown Congress of Teachers (YCT), the Yorktown Food Pantry and two local restaurants are teaming up to combat hunger in their Tip A Teacher Night on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Traditions 118 in Granite Springs and Don Tommaso's in Yorktown Heights.

Have your dinner served by the teachers of the Yorktown Schools and all the tips as well as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Food Pantry of Yorktown Community Help.

YCT President Sean Kennedy and restaurant owners Michael Lubic and Tom Cuomo invite all local residents to come out to enjoy good food and good company for a good cause.

“The Tip a Teacher event has become a new YCT tradition and we are committed to making this year’s event even better," said event organizer Janine Gibney.

"That’s why we’ve added the second location to reduce wait time and ensure that as Tip a Teacher grows in popularity, the fun of the evening grows along with it.”

In 2013, the YCT donated more than $6,000 and more than 2,000 pounds of food to the food bank. The YCT also provides financial support to two other local charities and provides scholarships to Yorktown graduates.

The Yorktown Food Pantry provides food and other relief to about 60 Yorktown families monthly and that number nearly doubles during the holidays.

“Being a product of the Yorktown school system, it’s great to be able to participate in an event that gives back to the community that has given me so much, ” said Cuomo, owner of Don Tommaso's.

Lubic, who owns Traditions, agrees.

“As a graduate of Yorktown public schools, I take pleasure in sponsoring this important event, knowing I am giving back to my community,” said Lubic.

To make reservations for Tip A Teacher Night, call Traditions at 914-248- 7200 or Don Tommaso’s at 914-302-7900.

To make a donation to Yorktown Community Help,  drop off non-perishable food items to any of Yorktown’s public schools or mail a donation with checks payable to Yorktown Community Help, Inc., 1974 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights.
