Yorktown PD Investigating Suspicious Van

Update: The driver of the van was located and questioned, and the police department has closed the case. The driver of the van told police he had been driving in the area to look at the exterior siding of houses to select a color for his own house. The police have determined the subject was not following the student.

Yorktown Police are investigating a suspicious incident Thursday in which a Mildred E. Strang Middle School student was reportedly followed to their home after being let off the bus.

Lt. Kevin Soravilla said the student was let off the bus at Carr Court at around 1 p.m. Thursday and was then followed 100 feet to their house. When the student entered the house and looked out the window, the van was still present until a neighbor approached the van and it left.

The police say the driver was a white male in his 30’s wearing a baseball cap and was possibly accompanied by a female.

The police are now attempting to locate the van to find out its reason for being in the area.

Yorktown parents were notified Thursday by a school voicemail about the incident, and urged parents to alert police immediately if they saw a red Astro Van.
