YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Yorktown Police Department has created an emergency evacuation checklist for residents in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy.
Yorktown's main shelter will be the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center (YCCC) at 1974 Commerce St. The center will open to residents without power and heat at noon Tuesday.
Below is a list of some items the police department recommends people consider packing if evacuated.

- Clothes for three days away from home (including sleeping)
- Shoes/sneakers
- Jackets/sweaters

- Cash
- Credit cards/debit cards
- Checks
- Coins for vending machines
Bedding Material
- Blankets
- Sleeping bags
- Pillows
Personal Hygiene Supplies
- Toothbrush/paste
- Dentures and cleaning materials
- Travel size soap/shampoo

- Sanitary Items

- Prescription medications in original bottle showing doctor and medication name

- Non-resident ID information if not a U.S. citizen
